The First Pinay Doctor to become a Barbie Doll Model
The
Fil-American doctor, Audrey Sue Cruz was chosen as the role model of Barbie.
It
all started when her video went viral concerning about the Asian Hate.
According to Audrey, it didn’t come to her mind that this video would have gone
viral and Mattel, Barbie Doll makers, will notice her.
Being
a role model of Barbie was Mattel’s recognition to all the medical frontliners
in their “Thank You Heroes!” program. These medical frontliners served as an
inspo amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
It
still felt surreal for Audrey, who works as a doctor in Las Vegas, Nevada, to
be chosen as a Barbie doll model. She was surprised when she was phoned by a
staff of Mattel saying the company wanted her to be their ‘partner’ as a new
model of their dolls.
“I honestly could
not believe it. Several months ago, executives from Mattel and Barbie reached
out and told me that they wanted to do a partnership with me,” said Dr. Cruz in the
Cosmopolitan.
According
to Mattel, they saw the viral video wherein Dr. Cruz was with other Asian
American physicians. There was a campaign being raised to stop the
discrimination, Asian Hate Crimes, or any prejudice against the Asian
Community.
In
Dr. Audrey’s IG post with her awesomesauce look-alike Barbie doll, she wrote a
gaiety message.
“This doll is a
reminder that it doesn’t matter what your skin color is or what background you
come from. You matter. You can speak your mind. You can follow your dreams. You
can make a difference. Cheers to diversity. And cheers to frontline workers all
over the country who have fought and continue to fight this pandemic. Thank you
for all your continued support. I am overwhelmed with all the love from you all
these past few days. Many have asked where we can buy this doll. At this time,
it is one-of-a-kind and is not being sold in stores. Want to ask @Barbie if you
can buy this doll? Email them at servce@barbie.com.”
Because
of her braveness, she was able to spread good vibes in thanking medical
frontliners all over the world.
“I am so proud to represent the
Filipino-American community as well as the Asian-American community in
general.”, she stated.
“My goal is to represent the hardworking frontliners who have sacrificed so much during the pandemic. I know that my fellow Fil-Am community has worked tirelessly, and I hope they know that they are seen and appreciated.” ,she added.
