First Star of 1977 Filipina Actress Died in Cancer
The late actress, Janet Bordon, is now resting in God’s kingdom on September 22, 2021, Wednesday (September 23, 2023, Thursday- Philippine time). She was residing in San Francisco, California, and recently celebrated her 61st birthday on September 16, 2021.
Janet’s brother, Rozel Bordon, confirmed the sorrowful news yesterday, September 23, 2021, via Facebook. In his post, he shared how brave her sister was in combat against cancer.
“Our so loving sister Janet passed around 10:07 pm today and she is now with the Lord and with our love ones.”
“No more pain ‘te Net. We love you so much ‘Te Net. She battled cancer for 31-years and 9 major operations since.”
“On behalf of our family, thank you for all your prayers.”
Janet was last interviewed by the Cabinet Files last May 30, 2020. She was optimistic and lively, although she hadn’t mentioned her long battle with cancer. At the age of sixty-one (61), she was able to maintain the beguiling beauty that turned her into a popular actress. Janet also decided to leave the showbiz industry in 1988.
She started her acting career in 1977 as a contract star of Crown Seven Productions, a film outfit of Jesse Ejercito, a movie producer. Jesse is former Philippine President Joseph Estrada’s blood brother. The movie Ako si Emma, Babae, was contentious and controversial as Janet portrayed the role of being a man who had undergone a sex-change operation to become a woman. Her leading man at that time was Rudy Fernandez.
“Non-exclusive for five pictures ang kontrata ko noon sa Crown Seven. But for some reason, natagalan na ipinalabas sa mga sinehan ang launching movie ko, ang Ako si Emma, Babae!” said Janet.
“I truly consider myself lucky kasi hindi ako dumaan sa bit roles at lead role agad ang first movie ko. Ni-relaunch ulit ako ng Agrix Films sa Biyak na Maynila with Philip Salvador as my leading man, after a year ng pagiging artista ko. Non-exclusive for five pictures din ang kontrata ko,” Janet added.
Janet was the favorite leading lady of Chiquito, Ramon Revilla Sr., Dante Varona, Rudy Fernandez, and Ace Vergel.
Truly a gem that will be forever treasured by her family, friends, and colleagues.
