Wife of a Boracay paddler mourning her husband's death: "My Husband Died A Day After We Found Out I Was Pregnant."
Everyone can connect to a famous phrase that says, "When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure."
It happened on September 25, 2019, when a sad news surfaced as the wife of a paddler awoke.
"I woke up with a cheerful heart. I remembered seeing my husband, Jan Vincent Natividad, running for the door to go to his usual morning dragon boat training. Nothing special there, except in our minds, we both knew we were pregnant."
"After our first doctor's appointment we celebrated with a simple lunch and a day out on the beach. We were ecstatic about the baby. "It felt so good to be alive," we told ourselves. Later that night we told our families in Manila."
"On that Wednesday morning, the news broke of a drowning incident in Boracay --- seven paddlers from the Boracay Dragonforce team drowned while training for a Taiwan race that was to be held in November 2019."
A lot has happened since then.
Then there was the COVID-19 pandemic, the enhanced community quarantine, pregnancy hormones, giving birth via cesarean section, the death of my father, celebrating our child's first month, and now, he is four months old. All of these situations tested me in every single way.
The wife suffers more because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the enhanced community quarantine, pregnancy hormones, giving birth via cesarean section, the death of her father. All of these situations tested her in every single way.
She once declined to have an ultrasound because she was afraid for her baby's safety due to the stress she was under. The baby, on the other hand, fought.
She suffered from severe depression during her second trimester. Everyone around her advised her to be strong for the sake of the baby, to resist the sadness, and to avoid crying. These, however, proved impossible to accomplish at that time.
According to her, She was never without a word for her hubby. She spoke to him as if he were standing right next to her. She'd still send him chat messages and photos of their baby child whenever she had to make a difficult decision.
