BREAKING:Noynoy Aquino, 15th Philippine president dies. UNDISCLOSED CAUSE OF DEATH
Former Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas 2nd announced that former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino 3rd died on Thursday. He was 61 years old at the time.
"PNoy, rest in peace (rest in peace). [He] was brought to the hospital early this morning and died after efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. Please keep him in your prayers. Thank you, Salamat "In a statement, Roxas stated.
According to initial reports, Aquino was taken to the Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City on Thursday morning for unknown reasons.
The news of Aquino's death had started circulating earlier in the day. The Manila Times received confirmation from a senator who sought anonymity.
Between June 2010 to June 2016, Aquino served as the country's 15th president, championing the "Daang Matuwid" and "Kayo ang Boss Ko" themes.
On February 8, 1960, he was born in Manila, the son of late president Corazon Aquino and former senator Benigno Aquino Jr., both pro-democracy stalwarts.
In December of this year, Aquino's health became a topic of discussion. He was detained for a week at a Makati hospital for a routine medical exam.
Former deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte debunked reports that the former president was very sick, claiming that his health was not life-threatening. She also thanked people who sent prayers and well-wishes on behalf of Aquino.
