Canada's 2020 Miss Universe Nova Stevens reacts to some Pinoy pageant fans' racist remarks.

Nova Stevens, a Miss Universe 2020 candidate from Canada, responded to the racist comments she got from some Filipino pageant fans.

The 26-year-old African-Canadian beauty queen posted a screenshot of one of her pictures with multiple Filipino comments bashing her skin  color on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.

"Nognog," one Pinoy netizen wrote.

"Katakot," "akala ko ingkanto," and "Tostadong tostado na  nga, NASUNOG pa" were among the other comments.

She also included English translations of the comments in  the frame.

Stevens chastised pageant fans for their "ignorant and racist ideologies" in the caption of her post.

She penned, "We're at it again.  I've been getting a lot of this image in my inbox lately."

"With all that has been going on in the world, you would think that sayings like "black lives matter" and "Asians are  human" would bring us closer together.

"Instead, it seems that certain people are still clinging to  their divisive and ignorant philosophies."

Nova also aired her frustration with the toxic actions of  some pageant fans.

She added, "I’m very disappointed with some pageant fans from some countries."

"Your hatred robs this once-in-a-lifetime experience of its fun and enjoyment.

"Is spreading love rather than hate that difficult?"

Stevens later clarified her post, stating that she isn't  singling out one group as toxic fans, and that she isn't  implying that all Filipinos are racists.

She wrote in the same post, "Thank you for your thoughtful comments and messages, everyone.

Please be assured that I am well. This is not a generalization, which is why I used the word  "some".

"Before I read some of the comments, I had no idea what  language they were written in.

Stevens further said that she posted the photo in the hopes of "teaching everyone a lesson" and "keeping pageant's fun and enjoyable for everyone."

Stevens, along with Philippine bet Rabiya Mateo, is one of the 74 official candidates vying for the Miss Universe 2020 title.

The Miss Universe 2020 pageant's grand coronation night is set for May 16, 2021 (May 17 in the Philippines) at Seminole Hard Rock & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
